Franklin H.S. American Studies Academy
NCHS is in its 6th year as the college connection partner with the American Studies Academy (ASA) at Franklin High School in Los Angeles (sponsored by Gilder Lehrman Institute for American History). This program brings students from their high school to the UCLA campus to listen and engage with history professors. As college connection partner, NCHS provides exposure to college-level lectures and college life. The history connection helps guide students to think of themselves in the context of a larger history of 'ordinary' people who made a difference. NCHS coordinates the participation of UCLA undergraduates who work in the classroom with students in the ASA, helping teachers, individual students, and conducting college admission workshops and individual help.
